Common Rights
All clients, residents, families/caregivers, placing/referring agencies and staff have the right to:
- To be treated with dignity and respect
- To be told about your treatment
- To have a say in your treatment
- To speak to others in private
- To have your complaints resolved
- To say what you prefer
- To ask questions and be told about your rights
- To get help with your rights

The role of these individuals are to help you with the grievance process.
Common Responsibilities
All clients, residents, families/caregivers, placing/referring agencies and staff share the following responsibilities:
- To be aware of the rights of others
- To communicate openly and honestly with each other
- To discuss changes in condition and treatment plans
- To discuss and clarify diagnosis and treatment
- To discuss and clarify side effects of treatment
- To work together to improve the effectiveness of treatment
- To ensure that people are treated in the least restrictive way possible
- To provide feedback on the service and or care in the form of suggestions, compliments or complaints
- To keep all scheduled appointments with YFT staff or to inform staff in advance if you are unable to keep the appointment.
- To work on your service goals as agreed upon in your Individualized Service Plan.
- To provide staff with accurate and complete information as it pertains to your treatment and care at YFT.
- To treat all others with respect.
- To adhere to the YFT rules prohibiting smoking and drug use and banning weapons on Youth For Tomorrow premises.
Family And Care Giver Rights
Families/caregivers, placing/referring agencies have the right to:
- Be recognized, respected and supported as partners in providing care to the client/resident
- Be involved in providing essential information to the clinician in the assessment phase, and in the ongoing treatment and care of the client/ resident
- Receive training in the most effective ways to relate to clients/residents and support their recovery
- Receive timely and easily understood information about the relevant mental illness, its causes, treatment options, and outcomes which are reasonably required for the ongoing care of the client/resident
