Summer Learning Academy

Summer Learning Academy

What is the YFT Summer Learning Academy?

The YFT Summer Learning Academy (SLA) is a unique program that provides  opportunities for adolescents ages 13-17 with mental health related issues (i.e., ADHD, depression, ODD, or related disorders) to develop their educational, creative, leadership and social skills over the summer. The program is tailored to each child’s behavioral, emotional, and learning needs. The ultimate goal is to build on a child’s social and academic skills so he or she can return to school ready to succeed.

The program is carried out under the supervision of mental health professionals, specially trained staff, and licensed educational professional. Youth are placed in groups of eight with two professional staff members. The group stays together throughout the day so that youth learn to work and cooperate together. Youth participate in high yield learning activities such as art, drama, cartooning, sports to identify life-long interest and hobbies.  Youth participate daily in therapeutically based educational, creative and recreational activities as well as group problem solving, social skills training and other treatment strategies.
