Youth For Tomorrow's Behavioral Health Services (BHS) offers a broad scope of  outpatient mental health counseling services for children (ages five and up), adolescents, adults, families, and couples. Our mental health professionals are here to serve you and your family.

Our services are designed to meet the needs of clients and families from diverse backgrounds who may benefit from outpatient assessment and treatment. We diagnose and treat children, adolescents and adults with a wide variety of issues including but not limited to: depression, anxiety and panic symptoms, post-traumatic stress, anger issues, obsessive-compulsive issues, grief and loss, self-harm, issues related to attachment, co-occurring disorders, aggression, attention deficits and other behavioral concerns, as well as familial and relational issues.

We provide behavioral health services with professional excellence, Christian integrity, professional insight, and genuine compassion.  Our staff is comprised of therapists with various credentials, backgrounds, trainings, and specialties, so we are able to offer a wide variety of treatment, including play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, and behavioral intervention.

The Potomac Health Foundation awarded a one year grant to Youth For Tomorrow to improve Community Health and serve residents of eastern Prince William County, Lorton, and North Stafford communities through its Howard L. Greenhouse Large Grant Program to further the Foundation’s mission to improve the health of the community by increasing access to health care for the medically underserved.

Barry Lawlor, LPC, NCC, DBTC

Senior Clinical Director

Barry LawlorMy name is Barry Lawlor, LPC, NCC, DBTC.  I have experience in a variety of settings, I have worked for Youth For Tomorrow’s (YFT) Residential Treatment Center serving at risk adolescents and their families for 6 plus years.  From 2012 through 2014 before I returned to YFT I worked as an Intake Therapist for Novant Prince William Medical Center for Psychiatric and Addiction Treatment Unit as well as working in the ER doing emergency assessments. I have done outpatient therapy for brief periods of time throughout my time as a Therapist.  I have clinical experience working with adolescent/adult mental health disorders including: depression, dysthymia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, Complex Trauma, physical and sexual abuse, Borderline Personality Disorder. I work primarily with adolescents and adults.

I grew up in the Northern Virginia area and graduated from Regent University with my Masters in Community Counseling in 2005.  I am credentialed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).  Along with DBT, I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Family Systems as well as using Christ Centered interventions.  I have a heart to work with the Human Trafficking population of the Northern Virginia/Maryland/DC area as this has been a population I have served while in the Residential Program.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, watching baseball, and listening to music.

Melanie Calhoun LPC, NCC

Melanie CalhounHi, I’m Melanie! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor and am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I am also under supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist and provide play therapy to children ages 5 to 11. I am passionate about working with clients in a person-centered, non-judgmental environment where we can collaboratively instill positive change and growth in their daily living. I strive to create a warm, empathetic atmosphere where clients can build emotional safety to then be able to address current challenges in their life. I enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds, but do have a love for children, adolescents and young adults. I have experience supporting clients to cope with and better manage depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, grief and loss, attachment issues, identity development exploration, relational struggles, self-injurious behaviors, adjustment difficulties, adolescent challenges and negative self-concept. 

I graduated in 2013 from Slippery Rock University with Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Dance, and in 2016 with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Youth. I was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Graduate award from my Master’s program. Outside of YFT, I have been a dancer, dance educator, and choreographer for many years and love the arts in general. In addition to dance, I also enjoy spending time with loved ones, walking my dogs, reading, traveling, and watching baseball.

Juliana Biggs, MSW, Supervisee for LCSW 

Julianna Biggs

Juliana Biggs is compassionate, empathic, and driven. She is currently working under supervision to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her Master’s in Social Work with a specialization in Children, Youth, and Families from George Mason University in 2021 and a Bachelor’s in Social Work with a Minor in Family Studies from James Madison University in 2018. Prior to Youth For Tomorrow, Juliana worked at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital providing outpatient therapy services to military children and adolescents. Juliana was also a Social Worker at Woodbine Rehabilitation and Healthcare where she provided case management to the older adult population. She has experience working with depression, crisis intervention, anxiety, trauma, family systems, ADHD, and behavioral challenges. She uses a person-centered approach bringing in aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Juliana’s goal is to empower the client using a strengths-based approach and create a safe space for them. Juliana has lived in Northern Virginia most of her life and has also lived in New Jersey and Alabama She enjoys spending time with family and her dogs, yoga, exploring new places, reading, and connecting with friends. 

Maria Tabarez MSW, Supervisee in LCSW

Maria TabarezMaria Antonella Tabarez is currently under supervision to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is passionate about providing individuals with the therapeutic support, tools, and resources they need to become the happiest, healthiest, and most successful version of themselves. Maria’s approach to therapy is person-centered and strengths-based. She utilizes her creativity and problem-solving abilities to adapt interventions in order to meet clients where they are. She typically uses a mix of therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and enjoys including art, mindfulness yoga, and games to make the experience engaging and encourage opportunities for self-exploration and growth. Maria has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults going through big changes, such as being in foster care, recently immigrating, or expecting a baby. In addition, she has experience working with clients battling with symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, trauma, and more. Maria received her Master’s degree in Social Work with a Specialization in Children, Youth, and Families from George Mason University in 2021, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University in 2018 after transferring from Northern Virginia Community College. Maria hopes she can use her knowledge to help you create a consistent, stable, and safe environment that will help you reach your goals.

Julianna Szabolcs, MA, RIC

Julianna SzabolcsJulianna is currently working under supervision to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Julianna Szabolcs earned her Bachelor's of Arts and Science in Psychology and Communications at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her Master's of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2021. In her professional experience she has worked as a volunteer and milieu therapist at UPMC Western Psychiatric inpatient unit. At Western Psychiatric, Julianna worked with adolescents and adults with illnesses ranging from addiction, mood disorders, and autism disorders. While completing her masters at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Julianna worked under the supervision of Dr. Sierra who has a private practice in Washington D.C. At Ana Sierra Counseling, Julianna conducted individual therapy, family therapy, and comprehensive immigration evaluations within the Latinx community. Julianna most recently worked as a Bi-lingual Home-Based counselor at PHILLIPS Program for Children and Families prior to joining the Behavioral Health Services team at Youth for Tomorrow.

Julianna specifically enjoys working with children, adolescents, and families in the Latinx community. She seeks to build genuine and therapeutic relationships with her clients by striving to individualize therapy with a cognitive-behavioral and person-centered approach. As part of the Latinx population, she appreciates and value the diversity of experiences and adversities that individuals face within the community. Julianna brings a particular therapeutic attention to children and adolescents, early development, the parent-child relationship, and families.

Julianna plans to pursue a doctorate degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in Trauma and Substance Abuse. She is currently an active member of the American Counseling Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
