Francisco Soto, LPC

Outpatient Substance Abuse Program Manager

Francisco SotoI was born in New Jersey yet I’m a native of Puerto Rico and speak and write Spanish fluently. I have been in the Behavioral Health Field (Mental Health and Substance Use) since 1983 with some interruption working in the field while I served in the US Army for approximately 5 years. My work mainly has focused on individuals with a Serious Mental Illness, Substance Use Disorders and / or Co-Occurring Disorders (MH/SA). Most of my experience has been working in Outpatient/ Day Treatment Programs supervising and managing, even though I had the great pleasure of working in a residential setting (St. Elizabeth Hospital), prison settings, the Adult Detention Center / Pre-Center in Fairfax VA and Emergency Services (crisis intervention and risk assessments). Having been a Behavioral Health Manager and License Professional Counselor, I’ve had the opportunity to develop programs, serve as a change agent, implement evidenced-based practices, supervise and train staff, develop quality assurance practices, provide direct services to individuals / families in need, provide multicultural expertise and sustain best practices. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Trans-theoretical Model and Family Systems approaches. I am currently a Behavioral Health Services Substance Abuse Program Manager with YFT providing Intensive Outpatient Program to adolescents at the Warrenton Office.

I attended George Mason University completing a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Counseling. I also completed 36 graduate credits in substance use with Thomas Edison State University. I’m a strong supporter of recovery, harm reduction principles and person-centered practices.
